Detailed Trekking Itinerary
Arusha to Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut
Your adventure begins with pickup from your hotel in Arusha, followed by a transfer to Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park. Enjoy scenic views of Mount Meru landscapes and open plains en route.
Complete your park registration before meeting your professional trekking crew (guide, armed ranger, porters, and camp cook). Receive a detailed trekking and safety briefing before hitting the trail.
Begin trekking through lush montane forest surrounded by beautiful vegetation. With your armed ranger, walk safely alongside possible wildlife sightings including giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and colobus monkeys.
After a picnic lunch, continue ascending gradually through the dense forest. You will pass occasional open viewpoints overlooking Arusha National Park before arriving at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m).
Settle in for a hot dinner and overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut. Relax and prepare for the next day’s higher-altitude trek.
Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
After breakfast, begin trekking through changing vegetation zones, transitioning from forest into open moorland landscapes. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic with volcanic crater views, alpine vegetation, and open ridges.
Arrive at Saddle Hut (3,570m) and enjoy a hot lunch prepared by your camp cook, with time for a short relaxation.
Take an optional acclimatization hike up to Little Meru (3,820m). This short hike helps improve altitude adaptation while offering spectacular panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, and surrounding wilderness.
Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut. Get to bed very early to rest up for the midnight summit attempt.
Summit Day & Return to Arusha
After a midnight wake-up call and light breakfast, begin the challenging ascent toward Socialist Peak (4,566m). The steep route passes through alpine desert terrain and dramatic crater ridges illuminated only by your headlamp and the stars.
Reach Socialist Peak and witness a breathtaking sunrise view over Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, and the expansive East African landscapes below. Celebrate your achievement and capture unforgettable summit photos.
Carefully descend the steep ridges back to Saddle Hut, where you will enjoy a well-deserved brunch and a short rest.
