Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will receive a warm welcome from your Msonge Tours & Safaris representative before transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Enjoy your first views of northern Tanzania landscapes and, on clear days, the magnificent slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

After check-in, enjoy time to relax, refresh, and prepare for the upcoming trekking adventure.

Meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing covering route overview, safety procedures, altitude awareness, equipment checks, packing recommendations, and summit preparation. Your guide ensures all trekking preparations are complete before the climb begins.

Breakfast at the hotel before departure toward Kilimanjaro National Park.

Drive to Machame Gate for registration formalities and final gear checks before beginning the trek.

Begin trekking through lush rainforest trails toward Machame Camp (2,835m). This beautiful forest section is filled with giant trees, tropical vegetation, birds, and occasional monkey sightings while cool mountain air creates a peaceful trekking atmosphere. Along the route, enjoy scenic photography opportunities and fascinating explanations from your Msonge Tours & Safaris guides about mountain ecosystems and wildlife.

Upon arrival at camp, enjoy tea or coffee followed by a short acclimatization walk around the surrounding area.

Dinner prepared by the mountain crew followed by overnight stay at Machame Camp.

Breakfast at camp before continuing the ascent.

Ascend through moorland landscapes toward Shira Camp (3,840m) while enjoying spectacular panoramic views across the Shira Plateau. As the rainforest disappears, the scenery transforms into open mountain landscapes filled with volcanic rock formations, giant lobelias, and dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The gradual elevation gain helps improve acclimatization while allowing trekkers to fully appreciate the mountain’s changing ecosystems.

Enjoy a short acclimatization hike around the Shira Plateau guided by your mountain crew. This additional activity helps improve altitude adaptation and increases summit success chances.

Breakfast at camp before continuing toward Barranco Camp.

Trek across volcanic landscapes, lava flows, and heath zones while gradually approaching Barranco Camp (3,950m). The route offers breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and dramatic mountain scenery filled with rocky terrain and alpine vegetation.

Lunch break with spectacular views of Kilimanjaro’s summit slopes.

Explore the Barranco Wall area and enjoy an optional acclimatization hike guided by your Msonge Tours & Safaris team. The dramatic landscapes surrounding Barranco Valley create one of the most scenic sections of the Machame Route.

Breakfast before beginning one of the most exciting sections of the trek.

Climb the famous Barranco Wall while enjoying spectacular mountain views and dramatic landscapes. Although challenging in some sections, the climb is non-technical and offers one of Kilimanjaro’s most rewarding trekking experiences. After crossing the wall, descend into the beautiful Karanga Valley before arriving at Karanga Camp (4,035m).

Trek through alpine desert landscapes toward Barafu Camp (4,640m). The scenery becomes increasingly rugged and dramatic with rocky terrain, high-altitude conditions, and spectacular summit views.

Lunch along the trail while preparing mentally and physically for summit night.

Begin the challenging ascent toward Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. The climb takes place beneath the stars while trekkers gradually ascend volcanic scree slopes toward the summit. As dawn approaches, the sky begins glowing with breathtaking sunrise colors above the clouds.
