Day 1 Arrival in Moshi
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be greeted by our friendly team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Relax and prepare for the adventure ahead as you enjoy a comprehensive trek briefing with your guide. Overnight stay in Moshi.
Day 2 Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,640m/5,380ft to 2,850m/9,350ft
Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
Distance: 11km (7 miles)
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration. Begin trekking through the lush rainforest, where you'll encounter unique flora and fauna. Spot colobus monkeys and colorful birdlife along the way. Arrive at Machame Camp for dinner and rest.
Day 3 Machame Camp to Shira
Elevation: 2,850m/9,350ft to 3,750m/12,300ft
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Distance: 5km (3 miles)
Leave the forest behind and ascend through a moorland zone. Enjoy sweeping views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. Marvel at the exotic plants, such as giant lobelias and groundsels, before reaching Shira Camp for the night.
Day 4 Shira to Lava Tower Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,750m/12,300ft to 4,600m/15,090ft (Lava Tower) to 3,960m/13,000ft
Hiking Time: 7–8 hours
Distance: 10km (6 miles)
Today involves acclimatization as you hike to Lava Tower, a striking volcanic formation. After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp, enjoying incredible views of the Western Breach and the Barranco Wall. This day is essential for adapting to the altitude.
Day 5 Barranco to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,960m/13,000ft to 4,035m/13,235ft
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: 5km (3 miles)
Conquer the iconic Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble with stunning vistas. Traverse a series of ridges and valleys, reaching Karanga Camp by midday. Use the rest of the day to relax and adjust to the altitude.
Day 6 Karanga to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 4,035m/13,235ft to 4,640m/15,220ft
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: 4km (2.5 miles)
A steady ascent brings you to Barafu Camp, the base for your summit attempt. Prepare your gear, enjoy an early dinner, and rest as you’ll begin your climb in the early hours of the morning.
Day 7 Summit to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 4,640m/15,220ft to 5,895m/19,341ft (Uhuru Peak) to 3,080m/10,105ft
Hiking Time: 12–15 hours
Distance: 19km (12 miles)
Start your summit push around midnight. Trek through the darkness, reaching Stella Point at sunrise. After a short break, continue to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Camp for well-deserved rest.
Day 8Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevation: 3,080m/10,105ft to 1,640m/5,380ft
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Distance: 10km (6 miles)
Descend through the lush forest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Afterward, you’ll be transferred back to Moshi for a celebratory dinner and overnight stay.
