Mikumi National Park Day Trip via SGR

Board Tanzania’s state-of-the-art Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) electric train. Travelling in comfort with soft reclining seats and climate control, you'll slide out of Dar es Salaam. Enjoy watching the lush coastal farmlands, traditional villages, and rolling green mountains wake up to the golden sunrise through wide glass windows.

Arriving at Morogoro Station, you are met by your professional, English-speaking safari guide. Board your rugged 4x4 safari cruiser with an open-top roof. The drive to Mikumi winds past the majestic peaks of the Uluguru mountain range and through rural communities, offering a true look at local Tanzanian life.

Enter Mikumi National Park and immediately raise your custom pop-up roof. Across the famous Mkata Floodplain—an expansive alluvial plain—you are likely to spot towering families of Maasai giraffes, grazing zebras, wildebeests, massive herds of buffalo, and elephants. If you are lucky, you'll spot lions resting on tree branches or in the tall grass.

Relax and recharge during the heat of the day. You will stop at a beautiful, secure safari lodge restaurant or shaded picnic park inside Mikumi. Continue your drive to explore different ecosystems of the park. You will visit the famous Mikumi Hippo Pools, where you can watch massive hippos bathing in the cool mud and giant crocodiles lounging nearby. As the afternoon cools down, predators begin to wake up, offering wonderful final action-shots.

Wave goodbye to the wild savannah of Mikumi as we exit the park gates. Your driver will safely transfer you back to the Morogoro SGR Train Station, passing scenic countryside vistas as the red African sun begins to lower behind the high Uluguru peaks. Your guide will assist with your SGR check-in.

Settle back into your comfortable, air-conditioned train coach for the 1.5-hour SGR journey back to Dar es Salaam.
