Day 1

Arrival in Arusha / Moshi

Trek Preparation & Welcome
Morning / Afternoon | Arrival & Transfer

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, you will receive a warm welcome from your Msonge Tours & Safaris representative. Transfer to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi while enjoying your first views of Tanzania’s landscapes and mountain scenery.

Afternoon | Hotel Check-In & Relaxation

Enjoy time to rest after your journey, refresh at the hotel, prepare your trekking equipment, and explore the surrounding area at your leisure.

Briefing Session | 04:00 PM – 05:30 PM

Meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing. This includes a route overview, trekking expectations, an equipment check, altitude preparation advice, and safety procedures. Your guide will answer any questions and ensure all preparations are complete.

Hotel to Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel before departure.

Transfer & Registration | 08:00 AM – 09:30 AM

Drive toward Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park. Complete registration formalities and meet your dedicated mountain crew, including professional guides, porters, the mountain cook, and an armed ranger.

Trekking Session | 09:30 AM – 03:00 PM

Begin trekking through lush rainforest trails toward Miriakamba Hut (2,500m). During the hike, possible wildlife sightings include giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, colobus monkeys, antelopes, and birdlife. The lower forest sections offer rich vegetation, beautiful scenery, and fresh mountain air.

Midday & Afternoon | 12:30 PM – 05:00 PM

Enjoy lunch en route or at camp while surrounded by nature. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut around 3:00 PM and enjoy a short acclimatization walk guided by your Msonge Tours mountain crew. The surrounding forest scenery creates a peaceful and refreshing mountain atmosphere.

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Trekking Session | 08:00 AM – 01:00 PM

Continue trekking through changing vegetation zones from montane forest into open moorland and volcanic terrain. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic with crater views, alpine vegetation, rocky ridges, and mountain panoramas. Your guide will explain the mountain ecosystems, altitude adaptation, trekking techniques, and volcanic geology.

Midday | 12:30 PM – 01:30 PM

Enjoy lunch en route or upon arrival at Saddle Hut (3,600m).

Afternoon Acclimatization | 02:00 PM – 05:00 PM

Enjoy a short acclimatization hike around Saddle Hut guided by your trekking crew (such as hiking to Little Meru). This acclimatization activity improves summit success chances while offering spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, Arusha landscapes, and the surrounding wilderness.

Dinner and an early rest before the challenging midnight summit push.

Summit Day – Socialist Peak – Descent

Begin the challenging ascent toward Socialist Peak (4,566m). The summit route passes through alpine desert terrain and dramatic crater ridges beneath the stars. As you approach the summit, breathtaking sunrise colors begin illuminating the East African landscape.

Summit Experience | 06:00 AM – 06:30 AM

Reach the summit and celebrate your Mount Meru achievement while enjoying panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti plains, Meru Crater, Arusha National Park, and the vast landscapes below. This is one of Tanzania’s most spectacular sunrise experiences.

Descent to Saddle Hut | 06:30 AM – 09:00 AM

Carefully descend back to Saddle Hut for a well-deserved breakfast and short rest.

Final Descent & Transfer | 09:00 AM – 04:00 PM

Continue descending toward Momella Gate while enjoying final views of the mountain scenery and wildlife habitats. Between 01:00 PM - 04:00 PM, transfer back to Arusha, Moshi, or Kilimanjaro International Airport. An optional short cultural activity or refreshment stop is available depending on your departure schedule.
